Product Review & Testing Policy

How we label research-backed analysis, first-hand testing, supplied products, and the limits of our evidence.

Product Review & Testing Policy

This page is the testing-and-disclosure companion to our primary review methodology. CoffeeGearHub distinguishes between research-backed product analysis and first-hand testing. We do not describe a product as tested, used, or reviewed hands-on unless that experience actually occurred.

Research-backed reviews

Many buying guides and product pages are produced through comparative research rather than physical testing. These articles may use manufacturer specifications, manuals, support resources, product documentation, current availability, and patterns across credible user and expert sources. They should focus on documented capabilities, likely workflow fit, and clearly stated trade-offs.

Hands-on reviews

When CoffeeGearHub has physically used a product, the article should say what was tested and under what conditions. Depending on the product, that evidence may include original photos, brewing notes, grind-setting observations, cleaning time, measured retention, capacity checks, noise observations, temperature behavior, or repeated-use notes.

Hands-on testing does not automatically make every claim universal. We describe the limits of the test when the setup, sample size, or testing period is narrow.

Products supplied by manufacturers

If CoffeeGearHub receives a free or loaned product for evaluation, that relationship should be disclosed on the relevant page. Providing a product does not guarantee positive coverage, inclusion in a “best” list, or editorial approval before publication.

Ratings and “best” recommendations

Recommendations are based on fit for a defined use case rather than an assumption that one product is universally best. We compare factors such as brew-method compatibility, adjustment range, workflow, capacity, maintenance, serviceability, and value. Limitations should be presented alongside strengths.

Affiliate independence

CoffeeGearHub may earn commissions from eligible purchases, but affiliate availability does not determine whether a product is recommended. A product can be included without an affiliate relationship, and an affiliate product can be excluded when it is not a good fit for the guide.

Updating a review

Reviews and buying guides may be updated when a product is revised, discontinued, superseded, or shown to have a material specification or compatibility change. We may also revise wording when a claim is too broad for the evidence supporting it.
